Gramercy Park Block Association - Neighborhood News #114
Photos of Summer Plantings in and around Gramercy Park

Below are photos of summer plantings in and around Gramercy Park.  Two of the photos show the plantings in some of the 41 Tree Gardens surrounding the Park, and another shows the Memorial Garden in Gramercy Park. This garden, which is located behind the fountain, has a plaque that reads "Emergency Service Squad #1 - A Christmas Grove - 9/11/01."

These two projects were made possible by a generous endowment from the estate of Gene A. Morin (1934-2006) to The Gramercy Park Block Association.  The bequest was allocated for the planting, care, and continued maintenance of the 41 Tree Gardens surrounding the Park.  It was also allocated for the planting of the Memorial Gardens honoring Emergency Service Truck #1 and the 13th Precinct Officers killed in the line of duty, specifically the fallen heroes of 9/11.

In Morin's will, grants were established for all the things he enjoyed in New York City: art, culture, parks and trees. The Block Association wishes to thank Deborah Harding, the Executor of the Morin Estate, and Kathleen Scupp, an Officer of The Gramercy Park Block Association and Project Manager for the Trustees of Gramercy Park, for making this grant possible.
