Our neighbor Alexander S. C. Rower, the grandson of American artist and sculptor Alexander Calder, was recently featured in an interview by the Financial Times.  Rower is Chairman and President of the Calder Foundation, and is responsible for the recent temporary installation of the Calder sculpture Janey Waney in Gramercy Park.

The chairman of the Calder Foundation talks about charity in the art world

 

 

Alexander SC Rower, 48, is the grandson of the artist and sculptor Alexander Calder (1898-1976). Rower is chairman of the Calder Foundation, which he founded in 1987 to promote and archive the artist's work. As part of Frieze Art Fair New York next month the foundation will host a free 12-hour public art event on May 5 featuring work by contemporary artists, film screenings and performances ( www.calder.org/cellophane ).
