The Gramercy Park Block Association's Neighbors Helping Neighbors Committee recently sent 2 vans filled with donations to the Lower East Side Nazareth House, which provides homelessness prevention services, emergency family shelter, supportive housing, and urgent needs assistance for low-income families. The GPBA's relationship with Nazareth House began when GPBA President Arlene Harrison reached out to Council Member Rosie Mendez to learn where the greatest need was for the donations.

In addition to donations from Gramercy Park neighbors, GPBA board member Harry Harrison facilitated  a donation of 21 boxes of new children's clothing samples from several children's clothing executives, which were also sent to Nazareth House by Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

Last October in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the GPBA reached out to Mendez to learn what Neighbors Helping Neighbors could do for those on the Lower East Side suffering from the storm's devastation. As a result, the GPBA then sent supplies to the E 6th St. Community Center for those living in the low-income housing projects. They also sent supplies to the daycare center Escuela Hispana Montessori Head Start, which included 133 children (2-5 years old) who were displaced by the storm.
