New Gramercy Park Neighbor
Renowned Artist Domingo Zapata

GPBA President Arlene Harrison with artist Domingo Zapata

We'd like to welcome our terrific new neighbor, renowned Spanish-American artist Domingo Zapata to Gramercy Park.

Zapata maintains studios in his Gramercy Park townhouse, the Design District in Miami, and the Palazzo da Mula in Venice. In these private ateliers he produces post-abstract representational paintings as well as sculpture. He paints in both oil and acrylic, often incorporating mixed-media, collage and graffiti.

Zapata's work has lauded praise from international press such as The New York Times, Esquire Spain, Vanity Fair Italia, and The New York Observer. Recently, New York Magazine deemed him, "in a league of his own," while the New York Post proclaimed Zapata to be the "new Andy Warhol, with starlets begging for a sitting."

We have met with Zapata and found he shares a common interest with the GPBA's Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Taking Care of Our Neighbors in Need. He believes in giving generously of his time, talent and resources to those in need. We look forward to a series of collaborations with Zapata.

An example of Zapata's philanthropic work is shown in the CBS video below. It covers his recent visit to the Las Vegas Academy of Art where he conducted a workshop with students and donated his painting of the famous 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign to the school.
