Every year The Gramercy Park Block Association members join Paddy Maguire's Ale House at 237 Third Avenue at 20th Street for an annual toy drive. The GPBA's "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" Community Service Committee then sorts the toys which are distributed to the local charities in need.
This year, toys and books went to children in the Beth Israel Pediatric Unit, and to the Epiphany Church Social Action Committee's "Adopt a Family for Christmas" which supports: Fox House, a shelter for women and children; Seton House, supportive housing for formerly homeless people; STEPS, a family violence prevention program; and Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Services.  Books and toys from the drive went to the Housing and Services' The Naragansett, which provides supportive housing for formerly homeless, low-income individuals livings with HIV/AIDs. The drive benefitted the Lower East Side Nazareth House, which provides homelessness prevention services, emergency family shelter, supportive housing, and urgent needs assistance for low-income families. It also benefitted New York Theatre Ballet's Project LIFT for city shelter children.
"We could not have a better neighbor than Paddy Maguire.  He is a very caring and wonderful friend to our community. We are grateful to him for sponsoring this annual toy drive, which helps so many people in need," said GPBA President Arlene Harrison.
