On Saturday June 21st, The Gramercy Park Block Association and Calvary-St. George's Church partnered in hosting Make Music New York, an annual event organized by the parish Music Director Kamel Boutros. Promotional support was provided by GPBA President Arlene Harrison, known as the Mayor of Gramercy Park.
"Our Block Association has enjoyed a long history of working with our neighbors at Calvary-St. George's, and we have accomplished so much together," said Harrison.
"We are particularly grateful to have such a wonderful relationship with Rev. Jacob and Melina Smith, who are doing such an terrific job of nurturing the relationship between the church and our community," she added.
Make Music New York is a free musical celebration with over 1,300 concerts on streets, sidewalks, and parks across the five boroughs. MMNY also takes place simultaneously with similar festivities in more than 726 cities around the world - a global celebration of music making, friendship and harmony.
The day of music took place in front of the parish house at 61 Gramercy Park North, and culminated in a performance by the Jazz Conceptions Orchestra led by trumpeter Alex Nguyen. It ended with a charming rendition of "Thank You For Playing Our Music" sung by Nguyen's 5-year-old daughter Gabriella.
