On Saturday, May 14th, my cousin Hallie Meyer and I debuted our sidewalk bakery, The Fish & The Cow. We set up shop on Gramercy Park North and welcomed dozens of customers to try our homemade confections. Our seasonal spring menu featured organic plum and rhubarb tartlets, as well as our miniature "little pick-me-ups" comprised of chocolate ganache with a maple espresso glaze. All of our fruit was grown in our very own Connecticut gardens, and we used local flour, maple syrup and honey in our baking.
We also sold delicious "City Harvest Peach Oat Pies," with a portion of the proceeds from these customer favorites going to City Harvest, an organization that works to fight hunger in New York City. Hallie is currently an intern at City Harvest, where she teaches weekly cooking classes in New York City public schools. We are proud of the money we raised for City Harvest through the generosity of our customers and look forward to expanding our donations in the future.
The Fish & The Cow plans to be back on the sidewalk on Gramercy Park North on Saturday, May 28th from 1:00-6:00pm, where we were once again invited to set up shop by Gramercy Park "Mayor" Arlene Harrison. We'll see you there!
