Gramercy Park Neighbor Kamel Boutros featured in film "Hello Lonesome"
We have some exciting news about our beloved neighbor Kamel Boutros, who is Music Director of Calvary-St. George's Church and has a close association with the Trustees of Gramercy Park and The Gramercy Park Block Association. You may know him from the annual Trustees Christmas Eve Caroling in Gramercy Park (led by Trustee Rev. Tom Pike) in which Kamel leads the music ensemble. Kamel also takes photos throughout the year at the Trustee events in the Park, as well as at the GPBA's Annual Family Holiday Party at The Players.
Kamel is presently appearing in an Adam Reid film titled "Hello Lonesome", now playing through Thursday, June 2nd at Cinema Village at 22 E 12th St (between University Place and Fifth Avenue). Click here for showtimes.
"Hello Lonesome" is a widely acclaimed film involving six characters in three interwoven stories. This independent film was made in 15 days on a $50,000 budget. Kamel plays Omar, an opera-loving postal delivery man. To see a review of the movie in the New York Times, click here.

While Kamel plays an opera-singing delivery man in "Hello Lonesome", in real life he is an award-winning opera singer. His Metropolitan Opera performances include Carmen, Capriccio, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Madame Butterfly, La Boheme and Roméo et Juliette, as well as a concert with the late Luciano Pavarotti conducted by James Levine. Kamel frequently performs both here and abroad with world-renowned classical pianist Martha Argerich.
Kamel's film career includes leading roles in Hamburg Cell (HBO), The Death of Klinghoffer, While the Widow is Away, City for the Daniel Pearl Foundation, and The Kingdom of Gravy. Most recently he has appeared in the TV series Law and Order.
